Modern Coastal design has been a popular design style for a while now, and no you don’t need to live by the coast to enjoy it. The perfect fit for Sydney living and embraced by all here at Kaplan Homes, especially in our Marsden Park display homes, Edmondson Park and Gledswood Hills. As the perfect complement to any one of our designs, we thought we would break down the fundamentals for those who may not be familiar with what actually goes into creating a coastal style home with a modern twist.
Coastal design hasn’t had the best reputation in the past, often associated with clutter, dolphin figurines, sea shells and plush rugs, it has been going through a bit of a (much needed) refresh of late, taking a turn towards elegant simplicity, and as such it has also received a boost in popularity. Modern coastal is steered towards, natural materials, sustainability, minimalism and comfort. The relaxing environment one dreams of coming home to after a long day.
Focus on neutral tones, white, grey and light blue if you want to be traditional, but above all, keep it simple. The aim is to create a fresh, soothing environment that does not take away from the natural materials in the home, with wooden beams and furnishings being a common feature along with a whole lot of natural light. Open, simple and comfortable, everything in a coastal home should create a sense of warmth and joy, and according to Marie Kondo that’s important, so be mindful with everything you add, as well as its placement.
As previously mentioned, our display homes take a lot of inspiration from coastal design so if you are interested in getting a first-hand look at how you could potentially incorporate coastal into your new home, drop by one of our display homes at Marsden Park, Gledswood Hills or Edmondson Park and get inspired or better yet talk to one of our designers and get a feel for what’s possible.
